The Malaysia's traditional textile technique known as the tekat is centuries-old art that can be traced back to the 15th century during the Melacca sultanate. Tekat, is an embroidery technique which involves gold thread weaved onto fabric, often velvet. The gold thread is weaved onto motif mould to create beautiful and delicate floral patterns. During the height of the sultanate, tekat was used for the kings' clothes and household decorative items in their palaces.
In modern times, tekat is often used for wedding decors and other special occasions. THESELINA® celebrates both the exquisite art and the strong women who are proud to carry her heritage no matter where she goes.
